Books - Natural Medicine in General
Doctor Mom’s Natural
Healthcare for Children: Alternative Medicine for Injuries and
Diseases, by Kathy Duerr – a great little introduction to natural
healing for parents and others who care for children. The author,
Kathy, was the bookstore manager at National College of Naturopathic
Medicine when we were students there, and she relies on her experience
of raising three children using natural remedies as a foundation for
this book.
Naturopathic First Aid
– a Guide to Treating Minor First Aid Conditions with Natural Medicines,
by Karen Barnes, ND - includes a concise introduction to naturopathic medicine
– nutritional, botanical, acupressure and homeopathic – then applies
these practices to treating common first aid conditions.
Websites - Homeopathy
The National Center for Homeopathy Gives an overview of homeopathic medicine as guidelines
in finding a practitioner.
Homeopathy: Beyond Flat Earth Medicine - a free download of Dr. Tim Dooley’s
book (see below in “Books”) which describes homeopathic medicine
in a most sensible way and describes the ins and outs of homeopathic
prescribing such as choosing a remedy, dosing, potency, etc.

Homeopathy for the First Aider - by Dorothy Shepherd, MD – currently out of print, but available used on Amazon.com.. A personal favorite – I love her anecdotes of all of her
clinical experiences in a munitions factory during World War I and in
a minor injury clinic afterward. This is homeopathic first aid
in the trenches and the results that Dr. Shepherd claims are nothing
short of miraculous.
Everybody’s Guide to
Homeopathic Medicines, by Stephen Cummings, MD and Dana Ullman,
MPH - one of the first homeopathic reference books that I encountered
when looking for information on natural healing for my children.
A popular guide, this book teaches step by step how to select the correct
homeopathic remedy for numerous common aliments and injuries.
Help! And Homeopathy, by Eileen
Nauman, DHM and Gail Evein-Kelly, OMD, EMT – a very comprehensive
emergency handbook. It lists almost every medical emergency along
with the conventional treatments and side-effects as well as the indicated
homeopathic treatment with dose and potency recommendations.
Homeopathy: Beyond Flat
Earth Medicine, by Tim Dooley, MD, ND – a very readable, intelligent
discussion of homeopathic medicine. Also available as a free downloadable
ebook!

Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide
to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats, by Richard H. Pitcairn, DVM and Susan
Hubble Pitcairn – a comprehensive guide to natural pet care.
Includes a special guide on handling emergencies and giving first aid
which describes natural first aid remedies and their indications.
Homeopathic Care for Cats and
Dogs, by Donald Hamilton, DVM – for caregivers as well as veterinarians.
Gives indications for homeopathic remedies as well as guidelines for
when to refer if symptoms warrant professional attention.
